In writing to the believers at Ephesus, Paul makes clear that his ministry of preaching the gospel was entirely a gift of God’s grace to him. He writes, “Of this gospel [the gospel of Jesus Christ] I was made a minister according to the gift of God’s grace, which was given me by the working of His power. To me, though I am the very least of all the saints, this grace was given, to preach to the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ… (Ephesians 3:7-8).”
As I reflect on my 10 years of ministry here at NPBC, I also can add my voice to that of Paul in saying, ‘it is entirely a gift of God’s grace’. When I was first contacted by this church to see if I would consider applying for the Senior Pastor’s role I must admit that I laughed inwardly – I never saw myself as being in such a role, as I never thought I had what it takes. As I prayerfully considered what God would have me do He confirmed in my heart through Scripture that this was His plan and that He would be with me. I, along with my family, have been blessed incredibly through the fellowship and the ministry we have had here. God is SO good! It hasn’t always been easy but God has proved faithful over and over again. It is God who deserves all of the praise and glory for this milestone.
I have been delighted to be a part of the lives of so many wonderful people here over the years – many who are still here and others who have moved on to other churches. I have made so many mistakes but you have been gracious and patient and I am so thankful.
I have also worked alongside many people in leadership roles (with members of the Pastoral team, Office staff, Elders, Deacons, Ministry Co-ordinators, etc.), and I want to thank them for the commitment and dedication they have shown to God and His church. Although today is focused on remembering the past, I want us to look forward with great expectation and excitement about all that God has for us in the future. By trusting in His grace and power, may we all continue to be faithful in following Him and serving Him with humble and obedient hearts. We have a very great God who is able to take what little we have and use it for His glorious purposes.
I look forward with great anticipation as to what God might accomplish through His faithful people here at NPBC over the next 10 years!
