The primary purpose of North Pine Baptist Church is to help people to become mature disciples of Jesus Christ who bring glory to him. The word of God, empowered by the Spirit of God, is central to this mission. Therefore, we want to see people engaged with the Bible in as many ways as possible. The preaching of the Word of God is foundational to our Sunday gatherings but we also see that it is necessary for the growing disciple to be studying the word through the week both individually and in groups. This is why the pastors and elders would like to encourage you to consider being a member of one of our Connect groups. God has called his people to love one another (John 13:34; Romans 13:8), encourage one another (1 Thessalonians 5:11), bear one another’s burdens (Galatians 6:2); speak the truth to one another (Ephesians 4:25); confess our sins to one another (James 5:16); serve one another (Galatians 5:13); spur one another on to love and good deeds (Hebrews 10:24); etc. Small groups, like Connect groups are an ideal way of not only studying the word together but also an ideal place to be putting these things into practice and to help one another grow as disciples.
Jesus calls us as his followers to be committed to one another and it is through groups like our Connect groups that we learn the skills of relationship and gospel living. It has been said that small groups are laboratories of love where we learn to obey the commands of Jesus in loving our neighbour as ourselves. In this way, small groups are also an ideal and safe place to invite unsaved friends along to.
Another benefit of small groups is that they provide a great avenue for Christ- like love and care to happen, and a place where people can be prayed for— particularly in matters that they would not necessarily share about in larger groups. Please prayerfully consider being involved in a Connect group this year.
Blessings, Pastor Duncan
