Authorship of the Torah

Knowing who wrote a letter or book and when they wrote it is very important when you want to say what the book means or how to understand it. This is no different for the different books of the bible. The Torah, or the first five books of the bible, have traditionally been viewed as being written by Moses during the Exodus from Egypt. In the last 2 centuries, a differing view has developed, suggesting 4 documents written by different people at different times were eventually collected and then merged into one final document at a later time. On Monday, the 17th of March, we will look at the strengths and weaknesses of both these views and the implications this has for our understanding of the Bible and our faith.
