This week I have started reading Ezekiel as part of my own devotional time. In Ezekiel 1:3 we read these words, “…the Word of the LORD came to Ezekiel the priest, the son of Buzi, in the land of the Chaldeans by the Chebar canal, and the hand of the LORD was upon him there.”
The people of God were in exile in Babylon, having been defeated by the forces of Nebuchadnezzer. They had been taken from their homes, from their land, from all that was familiar and known, to a foreign country. It was the last place they expected to be and it was probably the last place they wanted to be. They were faced with an unknown future – uncertain of whether they would ever get back to the way things once were. It was in this situation that we read that ‘the hand of the LORD was upon him (Ezekiel) there’. In that place, at that time, as unlikely as it seemed, GOD was there!
We all face times in our lives where we find ourselves in situations that we would rather not be in; we face challenges that can turn our world upside down. We can sometimes wonder where God is. No matter where we are and what we face we can be certain that, with Jesus as our Saviour, the hand of the LORD is upon us. He never leaves us or forsakes us!
